Elio Ciol was born in Casarsa della Delizia (Pordenone) in 1929.
He began working in his father’s laboratory at a very young age, acquiring technical experience and developing a personal way of expressing himself through photography, especially concerning landscapes. He was always in search of new expressive dimensions. From 1955 to 1960, he was active in the photographic circle “La Gondola” in Venice. In 1962, he participated as a set photographer in the film “Gli Ultimi” directed by Vito Pandolfi and Father David Maria Turoldo. The following year, in 1963, in Milan, he collaborated with Luigi Crocenzi in the creation of the Arnaldo and Fernando Altimani Foundation for the study and language of images. He has exhibited in personal and collective exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad. His photographs are present in private collections and public institutions, in Italy and abroad. He has received many awards and recognitions during his long career. In December 2001, the New York Times dedicated a space to him in the Arts and Leisure section. He collaborates with important publishing houses. He has contributed to the creation of over two hundred volumes. For sixty years, Elio Ciol has been writing with light, tracing a long and fascinating photographic journey. He is the author of numerous photographic books.
