Leo Matiz was born in Aracataca, Colombia, the same town where García Márquez’s Macondo was born, in 1917. His photographs bear witness to the most significant events in our history.

Leo Matiz, an influential photographer, caricaturist, and gallery owner, made a significant contribution to advertising, cinema, and the art market. He was the founder of the first art gallery in Bogotá, where the masterpieces of Fernando Botero were exhibited for the first time. Matiz is an internationally recognized artist who has received great acclaim for his masterpieces. In 1995, he was awarded the Knight of the Arts and Letters by the French Government. He was also honoured with the Silver Thread in Florence, and the Colombian government paid tribute to him in 1988. Matiz passed away in 1998, but his works are cataloged, preserved, and maintained for future generations.

Some of his finest works are exhibited at the MoMA in New York.
