Stephen Shore (born 1947 in New York) is known for introducing and legitimizing the use of color in fine art photography.

A precocious talent, he exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art at a young age and was part of Andy Warhol’s Factory. In the 1970s, he rose to prominence with iconic series such as American Surfaces and Uncommon Places, portraying everyday American life.

He was the first living photographer since Alfred Stieglitz to exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2017, the Museum of Modern Art presented a major retrospective of his work.

Author of over 25 books and a professor at Bard College since 1982, Shore has played a fundamental role in redefining contemporary photographic vision.
