Carlo Mollino (1905–1973) was an Italian architect, designer, and photographer, born in Turin. He is known for his eclectic work spanning architecture, interior design, experimental photography, and artistic portraiture.
After studying architecture at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Mollino developed an innovative visual language, applying the same aesthetic sensibilities of his architecture to photography. His images, often in black and white, explore form, movement, and the human body through a theatrical and surreal approach.
Mollino is particularly known for his portraits of women, created with sophisticated compositions, unusual angles, and dramatic use of light and shadow, blending eroticism and geometry. His photographic work also reflects his interest in design, dynamism, and technical experimentation.
