American photographer born in Westfield, George Platt Lynes is known for his sophisticated portraits, fashion photography, and especially for his studies of the male nude, which combine aesthetic elegance with artistic sensitivity.

After studying at Williams College, Lynes moved to New York, where he began working as a fashion photographer and portraitist for magazines and galleries. His work is distinguished by careful composition, refined use of light, and attention to form and detail.

He is particularly known for documenting artistic figures, dancers, actors, and intellectuals of his time, creating images that blend sensuality, elegance, and theatricality. His work on the male nude played a pioneering role in redefining the representation of the body in 20th-century photography.
