Naoya Hatakeyama (born in 1958 in Rikuzentakata) is a Japanese photographer whose work explores landscape, urbanization, and the relationship between nature and human intervention, a focus that developed further during his studies at the University of Tsukuba.

His practice is distinguished by an analytical yet poetic approach, often centered on quarries, controlled explosions, urban infrastructure, and contemporary cities. Series such as Lime Works and Blast document industrial processes, while other projects investigate the urban fabric and its layers.

A turning point in his career is linked to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, which struck his hometown. In the aftermath of this event, Hatakeyama created deeply personal photographic works reflecting on memory, loss, and reconstruction.

He has exhibited in major museums and international institutions, also participating in the Venice Biennale, establishing himself as a prominent figure in contemporary photography.
