Wolfgang Tillmans (born in 1968 in Remscheid) is one of the leading figures in contemporary photography, known for a free and experimental approach that resists any rigid categorization. His work spans different genres, from portraiture to landscape, from social documentation to abstraction, creating a fluid and constantly evolving visual language.

After training in London, Tillmans developed a practice that combines direct observation with technical experimentation, redefining the very idea of photography. His images do not follow conventional rules: printing, format, and modes of display become integral parts of the work, helping to challenge the traditional boundaries of the photographic medium.

At the core of his research are everyday life, youth cultures, political dynamics, and the theme of contemporary identity. His work ranges from intimate portraits of friends and acquaintances to scenes from clubs and urban environments, as well as abstract compositions where light, color, and material take center stage.

Internationally recognized, he has exhibited in major museums and institutions and has received prestigious awards, including the Turner Prize in 2000. His work has played a crucial role in expanding the boundaries of photography, making it a more open, dynamic medium closely connected to contemporary experience.
